Awlgrip and Alexseal,
applied under control.

Full topside and bottom systems applied inside a masked enclosure with controlled conditions — because a mirror finish is 80% preparation and 100% environment.

Why paint jobs fail

The finish is decided long before the topcoat goes on.

Orange peel, solvent pop, die-back, a boot stripe that wanders — none of that comes from the can. It comes from a substrate that wasn't faired flat, a primer that didn't get its full cure window, or a crew spraying in open air with dust and shifting humidity. Paint is the most visible thing on your boat and the least forgiving of shortcuts.

We build the enclosure first. The vessel is fully masked, the working environment is controlled, and each coat gets its specified cure before the next one goes on. Fairing is checked under raking light, not by eye at arm's length. When the tent comes down, the hull reads flat from every angle — which is the only real test.

What a paint project includes

Substrate, system, and cure.

Get a scope & estimate
01

Enclosure & full masking

The vessel is tented and masked before a single sander runs — protecting hardware, glass, teak and the boats around you.

02

Fairing & surface prep

Sanding, fairing compound and long-board work until the surface reads flat under raking light. This is where the finish is actually won.

03

Primer & build coats

Epoxy primer systems applied to spec, with sanding between builds and the full cure window respected on every layer.

04

Topside topcoat

Awlgrip, Alexseal or PPG topcoat in solid or metallic, sprayed in controlled conditions for consistent flow and gloss.

05

Bottom systems & barrier coat

Blasting or stripping where needed, barrier coat for osmosis protection, and antifouling matched to where and how the boat is used.

06

Boot stripe, cove & non-skid

Straight lines pulled by hand, cove stripes, lettering and non-skid deck systems with the texture and color you specify.

How a yard period runs

Four stages, primer to polish.

A paint project is scheduled around cure windows, not around calendar convenience. Here's how the yard period runs.

STAGE 01

Survey & spec

Substrate inspection, moisture readings where relevant, and a written coating spec: system, number of coats, color and finish.

STAGE 02

Prep & fairing

Enclosure built, vessel masked, existing coating addressed, then fairing and long-boarding to a flat substrate.

STAGE 03

Build & topcoat

Primer builds with sanding between, then topcoat sprayed under controlled conditions with the specified cure between passes.

STAGE 04

Detail & handover

De-masking, boot stripe and lettering, hardware reinstall, compound and polish, then final inspection with you or your surveyor.

FAQ

What owners ask about a paint job.

Which paint systems do you apply?+
Awlgrip, Alexseal and PPG professional marine systems. We follow the manufacturer's written spec for that system — number of coats, recoat windows and cure times — rather than compressing the schedule to free up the booth.
How long does a full topside repaint take?+
It depends far more on the condition of the substrate than on the length of the boat. A hull that needs extensive fairing takes considerably longer than one that only needs prep and coats. We give you a fixed timeline in writing after the survey stage, before any work starts.
Is the work done indoors?+
The vessel is fully tented and masked, and coats are applied inside that controlled enclosure. That's what makes it possible to keep dust out and hold the conditions the coating system requires.
Can you match my existing color?+
Yes. Bring us the original spec if you have it; if not, we work from the existing finish. For metallics and custom colors we prepare and confirm a spray-out card with you before committing to the hull.
Do you handle bottom paint and barrier coats too?+
Yes — blasting or stripping where the old system has failed, epoxy barrier coat for osmosis protection, and antifouling selected for your cruising grounds and how often the boat moves.
What kind of warranty is there on the work?+
Coverage depends on the system, the substrate and the scope agreed, so we put the terms in writing with your quote rather than making a blanket claim here. Ask for it as part of your scope document.
